I have thousands of hours flying ACMI freight. That industry is set up like the regional passenger model that we know and love. There isn’t much leverage to demand good pay when you’re fighting under the table with the rest of the companies to move someone else’s product. It’s a brutal business where the lowest bidder gets the contract. United already has a network. If they ever wanted to get back into the freight game, they would be better served doing what United or Northwest did in the past. Our cost and work rules would make competing with ACMI carriers like Atlas or Kalitta very difficult. They could, and would, undercut our bottom line every time.
