I'm not singling you out because many commenters have mentioned CASM as an albatross around the neck of some particular airline. What I find interesting about these analyses is the implicit assumption that CASM is a constant. Airline managers have many ways to adjust CASM lower. In fact the large network carriers have more levers to pull than the LCCs do before the nuclear option of bankruptcy.
But as mentioned who is screwed is only a matter of degree. We are all in very serious trouble but there isn't much to be gained agonizing over it. Use these months to save as much as possible and let's hope in a few years there is a decent paying airline pilot job for every qualified pilot who wishes one.
