One of the big cost of training is the time that the pilot isn’t out on the line generating money and the pad that we have to carry to have others out there working while we’re in school. When loads are down 90%, we have a gross surplus of pilots and that cost is greatly diminished.
yeah, but I would think more training would require more PIs to be on staff. And every PI off the line is another slot requirement on the line which could be an indirect way to reduce some furloughs.
and if many PIs are junior and on the chopping block, wouldn’t they have to be replaced by someone before 10/1? How long does it take to train a PI’s replacement? Or will they just keep them on staff and furlough pilots senior to them?
