Some guys might finally be getting fed the F up with having to rearrange their lives every 7-10 years. Perhaps their skill set and talents would allow for a more stable income where they don’t need to worry about the next global catastrophe that threatens their livelihood? Maybe that different source of income is doing something they also enjoy? More to life than messing up your body clock, eating terrible food, radiation, fumes, all to manage an autopilot for 99% of your time on the job.
Just to be clear I personally don’t have any other lines of work that would pay what UA pays, nor is their another career I want to pursue. For those that have had enough of the rollercoaster and have a different option that makes them happy I am thrilled for them. Instead of a condescending “see ya” why not be happy for them and happy for one less pilot that will get furloughed?
