What people seem to fail to understand is that the virus did not collapse the economy, the government did. The words being used on the public are carefully chosen by those writing and speaking them, to create a narrative that the public has a common enemy which is the virus, and the only way to combat it is through mass life-altering decisions by those in power. travel was steady even with the virus going on, demand didn’t suddenly vanish, in fact demand is still high with people wanting to go places, but they are prevented from doing so because the government has shut everything down. The government isn’t a god, and therefore this should’ve qualify as an act of god causing furloughs.
Though I’m sure it’s a losing argument.
It is interesting to see how quickly politics is thrown into the mix. This statement is right up there with “guns don’t kill people”. I’m pretty sure that none of us have PhDs in science (or political science for that matter). It would serve us better to leave this type of blame game philosophy out of arguments.
It probably would also be better for theists to stop writing legal matter since “an act of god” only applies to them.
