Been a few years. My dad was in a nursing home. Got him on medicaid. (He subsisted on social security and a meager pension, so he couldn't afford a nursing home, but was definitely in need of one).
As far as I remember, you can only have a certain max income and assets for medicaid. Maybe like 800 bucks a month and maybe like $500 or $1000 in assets. Anything beyond that, Medicaid could "take" to offset the cost.
