CARMAX is not the cheapest used car available, but if you're not certain what you want it's nice to be able to shop a lot... especially if you're my wife, no way could I pick out a car sight-unseen for her. Cheaper than new, and some assurance of reliability.
Same with my wife, she's so short we eliminate 3/4 of the cars we look at because she can't reach the pedals without being smashed against the steering wheel. Once we decide on a model I have to do all the shopping, she despises car dealers and won't go there until time to sign the papers. I have to test drive cars home and let her come out and look at them in our driveway.
