As to the question of "why" the civil war was fought. You don't need to believe a Prager U video. Just read the "Cornerstone speech" by VP Stephens. Read the proclamations and speeches of southern leaders said were the reasons for war. In 7 out of 11 states the #1 reason was to preserve slavery. The other states is was #2 o#3. Don't believe me, don't believe Prager U., read the speeches for yourself. The state legislatures voted to go to war to preserve slavery period end of story. Do a little research.

The war was fought over secession and the right of the southern states to peacefully leave the Union. They left the Union, in part, because of slavery. But that is not why the war was fought.
