It might be just me but I’m not really disappointed in outsourcing the gate agents and baggage handlers. So many of our airports have a morning flight and then an afternoon flight. So they have to leave in the middle of the day. Much cheaper for not much difference in service.
1. Sad for those affected.
2. The level of service will go down. If you ever worked for a regional, you will know this VERY well.
3. JB can no longer say they have never furloughed/layed off involuntarily. That may have minor implications for pilot furloughs as they no longer need to protect that "talking point". Unless they offer all of them positions elsewhere in the company.
But yes it will save money...
