What metric are you using to measure “detrimental”. Does it take you 2.5 to 4 hours to get to your hotel after you block in? Are you quarantined in your hotel room for the duration of your layover? Are you forced to stay on the aircraft and restricted from entering the AOC and using a sleep room during hub turns? All still happening in China.

And FYI, “falling on your sword” doesn’t mean give up. It’s usually used to indicate accepting blame over failure.
