The fact that UAL will not even provide a hotel room for new hires is only one indication of how the industry is changing. Pretty sad state of affairs and don't expect ALPO to help at all.
As for the area around the UAL training center, that is a very refreshing surprise. The old "Stapleton" area surrounding the training center has grown so fast it's unbelievable. There is everything to eat from fast food, buffet resturants all the way up to fairly high end places. All within easy walking distance (even in the snow) from MLK hotels or the training center. The cafeteria within the training center has good hot food for breakfast and lunch and it's pretty inexpensive.
As for hotels, the Doubletree across the street from the center
might give a "long term" rate and is the closest hotel. That's where United puts training crews up for PC's, etc. Otherwise, a vehicle is probably going to be required. You will want to get around from the "University" periodically and a day trip to the mountains, Colorado Springs, Bolder, etc is almost required to keep your sanity.....which might be questioned anyway.
As for the info on resturants, I was there for 4 days last week. Bring some type of boots and plenty of warm clothes...and good Luck !!
G'Day mate !!
