Plus their union provides them an 'A-Kasse', an unemployment insurance that will pay them a minimum of $3,000 per month after taxes, and up to 90% of their salary for three years if they purchased the optional additional coverage. They also don't lose their health insurance just because they lost their job.
Sure. They just lost twenty years of longevity because there's no such things as furloughs. But it's okay because the tax payer is going to fit their medical/unemployment bill.
