As for I got mine, I’ve done volunteer work for ALPA for 15 years. You?

It was far from perfect, I agree, What choice did the union have? Half a SS or the whole glorious thing? My point is that we ought not gloss over turds that we have eaten and look at things so myopically. Great, you landed on your feet. Perhaps WE can do better the next time? I am not claiming that you did anything wrong. Our aperture needs to be widened to include everyone. Since I was furloughed and had zero options I appreciate your gesture. But many didn't have options and that is what our union ought to consider as we line up for the coming colostomy. If we have an "Oh, hell, most of them will land on their feet" attitude we've screwed up. This is my 34th year in this industry and we have ALWAYS been in a low-grade cold war with management. Most don't recognize it. I'm sick of us getting giddy during times of high cotton and then dropping the ball when things go wrong. One step up, two steps back comes to mind. This job ought to pay far more than an attractive hourly rate. It used to back when it was a career.
It's been a long time but most of the stories I recall from the LUAL guys getting jobs at LCAL left a LOT to be desired. Not to mention what happened a few years later when the pieces of pizza were all jammed into one box. But hey, great burritos!
While your ALPA bona fides are appreciated, that doesn't mean that my opinion is invalid or that yours carries more weight. UA is my third ALPA carrier and I did work while at the previous two. Why must guys hoist that canard every time anyone disagrees with an ALPA volunteer's stated position? It strikes me as unseemly. My dues money alone allows me to pontificate my opinion as I wish. And my ALPA-PAC contributions over the years should allow me to shout them. After all, it's just an online forum, I'm not running for anything.
All that aside, THANK YOU FOR YOUR ALPA SERVICE and I apologize if my opinion soured your evening.
