I'm looking at options for some kind of high speed internet in a rural area. Xfinity says they service the area but after checking with them, they say my house is too far away from a hub and the signal would be too degraded so they don't service my address. No DSL providers that I can find either.
The only two options I can come up with are Viasat and Hughes Net. I don't like either one. I'm trying to be able to stream Netflix/PrimeTV. I might even be convinced to pay the price but the upload/download speeds (in my area) of these two options suck! I've also looked into using a hotspot from a phone company such as ATT but it's not really viable for other than surfing the internet.
Wondering if the collective might have some ideas. Thanks,
Denny
Denny, look into KVH. They do SAT internet/TV/comm for boats and RV's. Pretty neat stuff. You can get various plans and receivers. These are the units you see on the cruise ships and mega yachts. But they also are scalable down to the little guy.
So Denny, for the multi billionaires like yourself that need to stay connected - around the globe - I would take a look. Just need power and a place to mount it. Here's the website:
