There’s no way Delta switches strategy to AA’s full planes and more flights for a revenue boost. It’s not going to be enough to get to 0 cash burn. Capacity discipline is at the core of our revenue premium. And now, more than ever this is about distinguishing the brand.
Ed has made public statements saying a mask is required to fly Delta and that middle seats will remain empty until we are at a capacity that they need to be filled because we can no longer up gauge or un-park airplanes. That level of operations only comes with consumer confidence, likely brought on be a vaccine, effective therapy or the herd immunity acknowledged by a reputable authority. The natural herd immunity will be very difficult to recognize and acceptance will be slow because it’s not a breakthrough but a gradual lessening of cases and spread.
