Bought a ‘99 Miata new and ran it 11 years. Very reliable and gas mileage was great. Other than normal wear and tear stuff I only other item I had replaced was a cracked coil during those 11years.

In 2000 Honda came out with the S2000 with 240hp. Wish I had known! Finally picked up a low mileage 2008 S2000 and what a difference. Loved my Miata but the performance of the S2000 was amazing. Sold it a couple years ago and regret it. I still look at ads for them.

In my past had all the British stuff, MGs, Sprite, TR6. But none of those had the reliability and technology of course, than the Miata and S2000. S2000s were only built for 10 years and are becoming collector cars so if you find a decent one it’d be a good investment.
