As a commuter for 14 years I am also proud how we went the extra mile to get commuting crew members onboard. I saw a CA walk off a plane with his bags when the gate agent wanted to play hardball. The CA ended up winning and commuting pilot got home. Not an isolated incident.

You are so right about this. One time I showed up for a commute home, fully booked flight and two jumpseaters. You’re darn right the captain authorized the use of the extra flight attendant jumpseat without missing a beat. Not sure how by the book it was but it was freaking awesome.
