Nobody has seen anything like this before..nobody knows how long it will take to get back where we were. Maybe there will be a vaccine in several months..we’re buying some time. Nothing more. I’m not advocating an amendment to the contract. I merely stated that not everyone agrees to voting down the extension..to the TEMPORARY MOU. LOA is on there..it was the only thing the company was offering. I probably have enough seniority not to be furloughed..I’m thinking about everyone else. In times past..there were other jobs available. Now there really isn’t. There are over 30 million people on unemployment right now. If you..extra vocal people against saving other people’s jobs to buy time..can explain why a TEMPORARY solution like the one we are under now won’t work..or why it’s so horrible..excellent. If all you’re going to do is attack anyone with a different opinion..not sure why I wasted my time. Maybe you’re right..maybe everyone will get furloughed anyway..if hoping those people can hold on to a percentage of their pay and their benefits for even three more months makes me..let’s see what were they all..delusional, ignorant, entitled, clueless..then ok! You win. Sleep well with your extra few hundred dollars a month. Next time it may be you on the chopping block. We don’t work at Southwest. We’re not going to get a 5 year LOA with 63% pay and be living on six figures to chill at home. We work at Mesa..with JO. It was SOMETHING. Guessing a more “generous” offer is not around the corner. This was it.
The circumstances may be different (COVID) but pretty much anyone who has been in this business for more than 10 years or so has seen this sort of thing before. 9-11, economy problems, covid, the resulting effect on the industry is the same - furloughs, downgrades, etc followed by recovery. It’s happened before, it’s happening now and it will happen again.
