Yep, not understanding the history of this business is a real problem. Particularly among the young Riddle-type guys and older career changers. I can only assume the riddle-type guys simply bought into the “it’s a great time to be a pilot, you’ll be at a major in two years” sales pitch and never thought that the past (if they knew anything about the business previously) would repeat its self. The older guys, on the other hand, may not have had any idea of what they were getting into. They had been busy in other careers and, until recently, were just enjoying being airline pilots.
I can only echo, again, what most of the pilots on here have been saying - Learn about the history of your profession, what’s going on now is nothing new, only the circumstances are different. This has always been a volatile industry and will continue to be so. Just my opinion, but this will get worse before it gets better. I’m looking at a downgrade, I would love to be wrong about it getting worse.
