Yea, long-call can be a mixed bag, but when it's good, it's great! I know different airlines treat it differently and some will burn a long-call before the normal reserves but when an airline is well staffed, well run and the weather is good, it's awesome. Did I just say well run? I crack myself up!

Back in normal times, (a number of years ago) a senior captain with TWA bid long call every other June. Had to paint his house, siding one time and trim the next. Only once was he used in about 6 of those Junes. It was a STL to DSM turn. Still made it back to take his wife out to dinner.
