I watched an interview recently with a former game member. He said the black community (it applies to any community) values being cool too much.
Frankly, when I was younger I valued this too much and it got me into trouble. Trying to be cool or look cool depending on what you perceive to be cool is a dangerous thing. If you value the traits in a given music genre as being cool... You can get yourself into some serious trouble. I managed to escape that attitude without getting into serious trouble.
The fellow in the interview escaped it, but I'm pretty sure it was nearly his own death that woke him up.

Young people in general just want to be cool. It's a bad idea.
