DCA will not hire you until you have your CFI-II rating. That went into effect last year and that is effectively because they started the new curriculum where the Private and Instrument rating is combined into one course.
I had a buddy last year around August who got his CFI, and DCA wouldn't hire him until he got his II. He wound up doing it in the Cirrus.
I don't know how long your planning on "never touching the Cirrus" because they are phasing out the 72's and the Arrows by this summer and replacing the entire fleet (less the multis) with Cirrus A/C.
Well, you obviously have your mind set on what your doing so no point in further requesting any ideas or suggestion. Raise whatever little flag you want, but do one thing............
The next time you go to DCA, go into Dave's office and look at the student board. You will find 2 current CFI's going throught the CFI-I course. And I know of a third one that was hired less than one week out of his CFI initial.
I only intend on completing my CFI initial. I will do my CFI-I and MEI elsewhere at a better cost (a MUCH better cost!). In the meantime I will enjoy the 172 along with several other friends who are also doing the course in the Cessna and Arrow.
Your timelines listed make me question your presence in Houston. DCA may have started the new Cirrus cirriculum last year, but Houston only started it 2 months ago. Again, my advice is to look elsewhere, Anson Air was actually the school I was talking about. But no one can tell you anything if you don't want to hear it. So regardless, good luck and I wish you well....................
