IF and it's a BIG IF, those 8 days were one block, maybe. But it won't be.
It will be one day to get there, 3 days on, 4 days off, 2 of which are lost commuting, 2 days on, 2 off, don't bother going home, five days off, two of which are lost commuting, 3 days on, and another day to get home.
For me, that would be 16 days away from home, for 1/2 pay.
At the WORST I was gone 18-19 days a month, including commuting and "dead days" between trips where it's not worth going home, even with 1 leg available, at 97% on the ER.
Now do that and cover all 3 NYC airports.
F. That. Noise.
I'll take the furlough, see ya in a year or two.
But I have career prospects outside aviation. Which is why I always tell guys who want to go to college to be a pilot to get a degree in something that pays if you can't be a pilot.
