ALPA represents the entire pilot group, not just the senior guys. And it's obvious that since there is even going to be a TA that the union believes it's in the best interest of the pilot group to try and mitigate these furloughs likely through some sort of shared sacrifice. Ultimately, what that agreement will be has yet to be seen. At which point everyone will have to make their own decision on which way to vote.
That said there seems to be a number of individuals here with crystal balls tuned to the same frequency. They're predicting that if this TA gets passed that's where the bankruptcy judge will start cutting. I say, how do you know we're going into bankruptcy? And how do you know it will be reorganization and not liquidation? And if it's reorganization maybe there will be consolidation too. At which point those of us who are getting furloughed would be a lot happier to be active rather than furloughed during an integration.
My point more or less being, that there's way too much speculation going on. And before deciding we're on the Titanic and this thing is a giant iceberg we're heading straight for... maybe everyone should settle down until we can actually read it.
Maybe we should also read the contract we already have. This isn't the first furlough and it won't be the last. Why do you suppose that we never negotiated anything like this into our current contract? For that matter, do you know how our current contract deals with furloughs? Did you know that changes to our Line Credit Floor and Cap in the event of furloughs are already addressed in our contract? If you think the consternation is about cuts to pay then you just aren't paying attention.
