I have no dog in this fight (anymore) but completely agree with your perspective oldmako. I have always found myself nodding my head yes with your perspective. Just because your job is on the line doesn't mean you bend over and give it all just for some scraps. If you do that you will not have a job worth having to come back to. If you start agreeing to big concessions it will take literally decades to get back. It will also start the concession train throughout the industry.
