Same with the well-intentioned practice of folding seat belts, while looking nice (like parsley), it was actually discouraged by a former carrier's Tech Ops because it placed unnecessary stress (maintenance) on the reclining hardware. Day after day, pilots arch into the seat back to cross their seat belt, followed by the incoming pilot arching to uncross them. Not just pointless, it's costly.
