I can easily see throwing a ton of routes up with all the new slots we get in NYC to grab market share if this thing passes the DOT. Also remember there is inefficiencies while transitioning to a new fleet, there is training float, and you have to carry reserves for both the 190 and 220. It’s not a 1 for 1 transition for pilots like it is for the planes, have to carry extra pilots.
I personally don’t see hiring happening in the 1Q of 2021 since nothing has happened as it should this year. But if this thing passes DOT and we don’t get major spikes of COVID again then I can see pilot hiring at some point next year.
Lastly, the furlough email is obviously a move to instill just enough fear to get everyone to fill out a call to action. It’s what I would do, you want as much pressure on Congress as possible to get more free money, why wouldn’t you. I’m not naive enough to think we won’t furlough next year, it’s definitely a possibility. But I just think that email was more of a political message than it was a furlough letter to employees.
Yes I believe everything would have to go perfect for us to start hiring again in 2021. I think best case is a vaccine becomes available to the public right around the same time we start that AA codeshare. Start making a little profit again Q1/Q2, while being conservative paying down debt.
