it sucks from a pilot perspective, no doubt, but what would you have them do? Management’s job is to set up the company for long term viability. The fact remains that’s it’s cheaper to pay open time / JM pay vs benefits & MMG for the 138 furloughed pilots. I’m not saying it’s right, absolutely it’s not, but from a purely business perspective, what would you have them do?
You’re saying after almost a decade of printing money with paid off -200’s, dragging their feet on a contract for over a decade while pocketing the cost savings there, and all the other things they do to save every penny, that they can’t afford to staff for the amount of flying we have without still making a profit? After months of “our performance is vital for securing extra flying”, they’re cutting staffing to the point where a weather event, sick call, or denied junior man is going to tank our numbers.
