Even though everything is done electronically, it is not faster. When I put in for retirement ( I was looking to get out quickly and pursue an airline gig) the first thing I got after filling out the request online was a response that they (AFPC) would get back to me within 10 business days to see if I was eligible to retire. In the good ole days, you would go to the MPF and Sgt Snuffy would look up your data and tell you whether you were able to retire within 5 minutes of you asking them. That was just the first step. The rest of the online experience was similar. I had to get friends to help the package along, and then it moved at continental drift speed.
When I asked the personnel folks why it took so long, when everything is done electronically, they told me the personnel cuts have reduced their manning to levels that they can not process all the requests in a timely manner. To make matters worse, anytime there is a force shaping exercise, more personnel is taken to the force shaping department so they can process packages quickly and get the people they want to get out withing 90 days. The rest of us have 180 day minimum waverable down to 120 days maybe...
Take it from someone that just went through the rabbit hole, web based does not mean quick. There are still plenty of personal nodes in the personnel system.
