you are better off finding your own contract work.
So never use a placement service to help you find contract work because they will expect to be paid a fee? If it was that easy to find your own contract work, would crew placement services exists? Instead, how about determine a bottom line you are willing to accept and if the contract isn't going to pay that, then turn it down.
