Is it the best course of action... no, but that's what happens when there is no top down leadership. Even an imperfect national strategy is better than nothing.

Agreed, but our political landscape makes it impossible to accurately get the data. It would be great if we had national and detailed data about our country. That way we could make more accurate data driven policy, but politics won't allow that. The parties build their platforms on ideals rather than facts, so if we decide to get the data, that might show that a party was wrong about a policy and no one wants to admit that.

So many problems in our country could be solved with data. But that would be scary because then the government could track us. Instead, we give our data away to countless companies without thinking about it. The sad thing is, most tech and healthcare companies probably have a better picture of the pandemic than our actual government.
