IMPORTANT and URGENT update to my note on pass travel from 8 days ago. It will impact active employees and many of the 2,500+ registered retirees – so please forward to any retiree in your rolodex as we don’t have accurate contact information for all of them.

United has notified us that they will cease all pass travel benefits for ExpressJet employees and retirees who are not “grandfathered” into retiree benefits at the time of the 2002 Continental Express spin off.

Unless you hear otherwise, employees and retirees who do not fall under the Continental or Continental Express retiree category should plan for their United Pass Travel benefits to stop at any time starting tomorrow October 09, 2020.

While we have requested United to extend this deadline, there is no certainty that this will happen. Therefore, please urgently adjust your plans accordingly.

(We will separately evaluate the impact on cobus travel.)

Were you “grandfathered” into retiree benefits at the time of the 2002 Continental Express Spin off?Employees and retirees of Continental and Continental Express at the time that Continental Express was a wholly owned subsidiary of Continental (circa 2002), and who were eligible for retirement, based on age and years of service as of January 11, 2011, or earlier, are grandfathered into the retiree travel policies of United as per the agreement established at that time. Information about these employees and retirees is based on their records in Continental’s legacy “Compass” HR System.
