Their politics is highly different than Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York City.
Well shucks, if we're doing that, might as well split Florida up too, since south Florida has remarkably different politics and demographics than north Florida. Same thing for Pennsylvania, every single state in Northern New England, etc... The list could go on and on, since outside of the south, the divide tends to be more urban vs. rural. Might be better off that way since both PA and FL have more recently been swing states with a lot of votes. Or we could eliminate the electoral college and adopt proportional representation like Europe, and allow whoever actually wins the majority of the popular vote to be President. Nah, we'll never do that.
