I feel like he is slowly trying to distance himself from Trump and his poor polling numbers. I think that since 1 October when furloughs started it has become increasingly unlikely that a second CARES would happen. Trump is NOT going to hold a SCOTUS appointment hostage to this, he’d lose far more votes than it would possibly gain him. I think that the angst over the confirmation of the nominee is going to suck all the political oxygen out of DC until after the election and - after the election - no politician of any stripe is going to worry about this, since they will have another 2, 4, or 6 year lease on life, and in 24 months some other cause celebre will have long since pushed airlines to the back burner, assuming they are even still on the stove at all...
