Read Hard Landings. Then On Wooden Wings. Talk to some of the guys who were here when Ferris, Lorenzo and Tilton were in charge. You might just learn something useful before you grab the big Yes lever again. The foundations of the union that made this job worth having have just been badly fractured. No matter how hard you hold your breath, you will never be able to give enough to save your airline. Good luck.
Read all the books. There comes a time when management is doing the right things for the first time in decades (not shrinking to profitability, going after and getting market share 8-12% for the last 2 years despite the objections of all analysts who changed their tune when SK actually did it, best morale in decades, etc), that we need to have some trust. Never forget but to just blast management the whole time and our MEC that have produced some of the best contract and pay gains in years is absurd. It’s mostly the old Crusties that will never change. Bottom 1/3rd had great energy and motivation and little disdain for management because our management has been great under Oscar and now Scott. Middle 1/3rd was screwed over twice by the senior and selfish bunch like you. The same ones that voted NO for their own interest again and complained that the makeup of the MEC had too many single and double furloughees that had inputs into the LOA. The same senior pilots that told the same single and double furloughees that they need to work on attending meetings and run for Alpa positions. They do and then the senior guys complain. The same senior guys that say, it’s a tradition and history to furlough and not try to save every union member because that’s the way it is. Well the middle 1/3 decided that they were going to make a stand and not dole out the same BS to the younger group. I’m glad to see some of the top 1/3rd got it and made the correct decision for our union brothers and sisters and righted a wrong, out-dated philosophy. We are lucky to have r the best manager in aviation running UAL. Didn’t say he wouldn’t negotiate as best as he can but he isn’t out to screw us. That’s the dinosaur mentality like you. Don’t let the door hit you in the rear as you walk out the cave.
