I work as a bar back (getting cases, changing kegs, etc.) at a local pub two or three nights a month. I get a small cut of the tips ($30-40 for an evening), but the best part is I haven't PAID for a drink in weeks.
No, I'm smarter...I bartend and serve and make about 5 times more than that on a short shift. Not to mention I get to pour my own drinks.
I would try to work at a restaurant once or twice a week if you can find a place that will be flexible with you. Don't bus or barback unless you just want beer money.
