I think it’s worth remembering that, although 95+% of scabs are absolutely delusional, self-absorbed, pieces of sh!t, my understanding is that a small percent (of CAL) were either incredibly naïve/uninformed (super young, military) or honestly had a super sick kid or something. It doesn’t change the choice they made and the consequences that follow, but since I don’t know which ones are which, I simply calmly treat them the same: No jumpseat, no beers, no small talk (crew lounge or cruise), but I take no joy in treating them how they have to be treated.

as far as off-line guys go, the pin doesn’t mean the same thing at other airlines. It would be ridiculous for us to expect them to adhere to our specific culture. But if you are at United, you absolutely know what the pin means. So whether you are choosing not to wear it, or are not a member in good standing, you know full well what it communicates to other UAL pilots.
