as far as off-line guys go, the pin doesn’t mean the same thing at other airlines. It would be ridiculous for us to expect them to adhere to our specific culture. But if you are at United, you absolutely know what the pin means. So whether you are choosing not to wear it, or are not a member in good standing, you know full well what it communicates to other UAL pilots.
exactly... within our own ranks wearing a pin is expected and part of doing business. Fail to wear it and get left behind on the JS and on layovers. The union even makes a sticker with the ALPA wings to place on your crew ID when out of uniform...
