We do 290/.74 pretty much all the time unless we need the angle to clear wx. If it was bumpy, FLCH could've been killing his vertical speed. We are just getting the new load at RW that has a better function that doesn't seem so aggressive to hunt for speed. The climb really slows down from about FL250 till you transition to mach around FL290. Then it picks back up again. Lots of guys will use vertical speed or FPA to get through that part of the climb. Just have to make sure you set your target speed high enough so the AT's don't pull back the power in the climb.
