What you are complaining about is a carbon tax, which is fundamentally a market-based solution to the problem, not to mention the fact that the government has been taxing us for 250+ years. If you think a mere tax is socialism then I guess you'd have to add George Washington to the list of socialists for his role in putting down the Whiskey Rebellion and enforcing an excise tax that farmers did not want to pay.
The advantages and disadvantages of carbon pricing are up for debate, but it certainly is not socialism since it literally relies on market forces to work
My google search for the definition turned up the same result as well. However, I see a correlation between socialism and the mechanism that is ETS or "carbon tax" if you will. Carbon tax is so, non-definitive in that it can be applied to everything. In theory and not to hard to reach is that some entity could tax you, a tax on your body, a carbon tax for the gases you exhale. I am not opposed to paying tax as it is required for any civil society. However, it's is the over-taxation and the inevitable growth of a bureaucratic government I oppose and socialism is the commonly used mechanism. This door is very easy, even inviting to open. But next to impossible to close.
As for the carbon tax being market based, I can see where your coming from. But just because it's market based doesn't mean I agree with it.
