Regarding Grandfather rights, would someone who had been out on military leave for a couple of years be able to bid off of one of those previous vacancies that the grandfathered folks initially got their award from, that they are now grandfathering back to, in essence letting the person coming back from military leave jump into any position their seniority could have held, even above someone grandfathered?

pilots on virtually any kind of absence are allowed to bid on vacancies. So, you can be awarded something even while on leave and that will be what you return to. EG: after a year on the job, off probation, consolidated, etc., you go on MIL for five years. While away you put in a standing bid for CA anywhere in the system and you are awarded a captain position. so you could return to UAL with 100 hrs of 121 time as a captain on an A/C you’ve never flown. That said, you don’t get to retroactively bid on a previous vacancy. While I can see how that would appear to be fair… It would be difficult on both manpower planning and other pilots who use percentage betting to select their BES
