First of all b/c it might not happen, second of all because you might not want that to happen, depending on how it is structured. If, for example, they were to scale back DTW/MEM flying (like the way AA scaled back STL feed after the TWA merger) things might get a little crazy. this wont happen, and there are several reasons why. without going into them to much atlanta cant handle any more flying than it already has, infact it could stand to lose a few flights and get ontime and completion performance up to par. instead of having 3 flights a day to tys from mem and 6 flights a day from atlanta to tys i see them shifting passengers around in a more economic way that way they don't have to do so many runs to the same place, crowding up their system. that is how a merger will play out. take the stresses off the major hubs that cant take anymore and spread it out, and maybe even pull back a bit.
