I waited 30+ minutes for a gate in some form or another about once a month at DCI in 2019. Jet bridge driver, rampers, and other aircraft on our gate were the usual suspects. I waited almost an hour (54 minutes) for a Marshall crew in DTW in 2018 (again at DCI). Waited half an hour for a gate agent to come and attach the jet bridge last summer in ATL, and in 2018 I waited 30+ minutes for ramp crew 3 separate times at the same outstation in a 2 month period. ATL is usually pretty good but my average wait time in DTW on one trip was over 10 mins (I timed it). None of these involve ramp closures for WX. IDK if drum is exaggerating or not but I’ve certainly had more than a couple times of waiting long for dumb stuff.
