Completely agree.... either way it’s a good way to dabble our toes in the ETOPS pool.......once certified and proficient nothing stops us from heading to Hawaii, São Paulo, Dakar or (God forbid) Lagos! 8 years ago at FlightSafety I trained some be1900 crews that were based in Lagos. We had to do NDB approaches in the sim. Not FMS hybrid NDB approaches, old school when the intercept angle equals the deflection approaches. They work as long as you flew them before the daily power outages occurred in Lagos. I asked if the power ever quit during the approach. Yes. What did you do? We just descended to minimums through the clouds, without navigational guidance. Have you taken our CFIT course yet? How about CRM this Tuesday?
