Pre-covid the regionals were hiring anybody they could to fill seats. A training manager at my regional told me they had accepted the fact that they were hiring some people who they would probably never upgrade, just for right-seat-meat, and they'd cross that bridge when they came to it. Guess they figured there'd be a downturn eventually, and right they were.
