Quote: what does payroll tax have to do with property tax? They didn’t pay the payroll tax so that they could enjoy the lower property tax. And is your contention that the younger person won’t pay payroll tax?

Both are a way for a state to collects revenue/tax from its citizens. We’re comparing Florida and California. In California the older person will be done with payroll tax when they retire at which point they can enjoy the low property tax they built over time as the value of thier property went up. It’s an advantage over Florida over time and once retired thats paid for while your working. You don’t like it and I understand why. I do like it. I guess ca could go to some graduated property tax that increases tax with increased value but at that point I would want no payroll tax like Florida.
