I get the desire to have access to a microwave and mini fridge (plenty of business class hotels such as Hilton/Hyatt/Crowne Plaza/Marriott, etc., have fridges btw), but for those of us who didn’t go into this profession to eat four days of leftovers out of a cooler, it would be nice to stay in higher tier properties within striking distance of food and stuff to do. We get per diem for a reason. Do you think the road warriors that we traditionally fly would be jazzed about an LQ next to a Waffle House because “yay, I don’t have to walk 20 ft to nuke stuff?” Come on man.
In regards to the per diem comment, cost isn’t the only contributing factor. I bring food for the health benefits. Ask most of the senior mainline pilots and they will pretty much say with certainty that bringing your food is one of the best things you could do. Even high end prepared food at nice restaurants is still horrible for you.
Plus those that are into fitness are usually much better served bringing specific food for their goals.
Regardless, I get we all have different tastes and motivations, I just find it hard to believe that some hotels don’t offer microwaves and fridges.
