If I were a minority, I would be extraordinarily angry that these majority white companies with their boards comprising of a majority of rich white men feel like they have a savior complex and that I need a handout to get my foot in the door.
How absurd to believe these people are otherwise incapable of making it in this industry.
I am a minority. I'm not angry. When I go to work it's 95% white males. I can count on my fingers and toes the number of minorities I've flown with in over 20 years and I'm sure you can too, if you are an airline pilot. I don't recall reading anywhere that the standards will be lowered for women and minorities. Why are you guys so upset that someone other than white male is getting a chance at a great career. Imagine going to work, every single day and being the only one that looks like you, shares cultural ideas, listens to similar music, likes similar movies, etc.... It has an effect when you have to adapt to the norms of your work environment for years and they are very different from yours. About the only thing I have in common with most of my coworkers outside of happy family, financial prosperity, etc... is flying. The only similarity I can think of would be the NFL or NBA, granted with a lot more money at stake.
