The whole idea of this initiative is to get a more diverse group of applicants. Right now it’s 80% but if United gets other than white men into flight training who might not otherwise afford it or have ability to attend flight training the numbers will slowly change. There are so few minorities in flight training and United wants to change that. They will still require time at a regional or similar experience to move on.
Employers should hire those with the best resume and skill set. Period. The color of your skin or the fact that you have a vagina instead of a penis should not be part of the hiring process.
For all those that say "oh this won't lead to lowering standards" all you have to do is look at Universities. If you're Asian you need a higher SAT/ACT score to get accepted into a University. If you're black, they'll settle for less. All in the name of "diversity". You don't think that will happen when it comes time to hire for the cockpit? Stop being delusional.
