Filling a racial quota today will lead to a more uniform and fair pool in the future because small kids will see people who look like them up front and then be inspired. It doesn’t have to be a binary argument. Yes, it’s a little dystopian on the surface but it’s not about now, it’s really for 15-25 years from now. It’s about the small girl seeing a female captain and realizing that being an airline captain is an option.
Are we in 1960? There’s plenty of female pilots to look up to if a young girl was interested in flying today. When will the preferential treatment end? I guess when 50% are minorities.
